The Sterling Riverfront Commission was created by the Sterling City Council in 2022 as a recommendation of the City’s 2021 Comprehensive Plan. It provides recommendations on access and multiple-use development features with a goal of rehabilitating Sterling’s riverfront along the scenic Rock River. The commission is comprised of community members committed to utilizing the riverfront to enhance recreational opportunities, build social and cultural capital, and preserve history in Sterling. Based on the recommendation from the Sterling Riverfront Commission, the City of Sterling approved the Master Plan in February 2023.
The Sterling Riverfront Reimagined project continues to move forward. A project of this scope and size will be completed in phases. Work on the Riverfront Park located at Wallace Street and Avenue B is set to begin in the Fall of 2023.
